TOPIC: DO NOT ENVY SINNERS!
SCRIPTURE REFERENCES: Psalm 37:1-10, Malachi 3:13-14, Psalm 73, 2 Samuel 12:1-14, 2 Samuel 11:1-15, Proverbs 23:1-8.

DEFINITION.
ENVY is a deep seated ungodly desire to possess what others posses such as their traits, behavior, material things, abilities, etc. It can also be defined as a discontentment caused by another person’s achievement.

Reading the book of Malachi 3:13-14, the following points can be drawn:
1. It is assumed that the way(s) of the unbelievers always appear right.
2. It is assumed that the ‘successful’ unbelievers are doing something right.
3. Sinners appear to have everything right without any trouble.
4. Workers of iniquity seem not to pray but things happen for good.
5. Eye Service is rewarded much more than consistency.
6. People who involve in shady business seem to have fat accounts than does who do things right.

REASONS WHY BELIEVERS ENVY SINNERS.
1. They appear to be free from troubles. (Psalm 73:5,12).
2. They seem to be self-sufficient. (Psalm 73:7).
3. They seem to get away from ‘anti-God behavior’. (Psalm 73:9).

DANGERS OF ENVY.
1. It makes serving GOD appear to be in vain. (Psalm 73:13).
2. It makes trial of faith seem as a plague. (Psalm 73:14a).
3. It leads to backsliding. (Psalm 73:2).
4. It makes correction in righteousness unfair.

WHY WE SHOULD NOT ENVY SINNERS.
1. Their ways are slippery. (Psalm 73:18a).
2. Their end is destruction. (Psalm 73:18b).
3. They are easily blown away. (Job 21:18).
4. They have no standing. (Psalm 1:5).

WAYS TO AVOID BEING ENVIOUS.
1. Have a good understanding of their end so as not to envy their present. (Psalm 37:9a).

2. Know that GOD does not forsake His saints. (Psalm 37:28).

3. Keep GOD’s law in your heart so that your feet will be grounded. (Psalm 37:30-31).

4. Do not desire to keep company of evil men. (Proverbs 24:1-2).

5. Have the fear of GOD which brings blessings and contentment.

6. Remember that the righteous, in the long run, will inherit the earth.
